The houses of parliament.

The parliament of the UK has changed over hundreds of years. Over the years parliament has become more respective.Today people over the age of 18 and over has the right to vote for a local member of parliament to represent them in the house of commons.Nearly everyone aged 18 or over has the right to vote for a local member of parliament. It was very different 200 years ago, only men were aloud to vote.

The House of Commons and the House of Lords meet in the palace of Westminster, next to the river Thames in London.The palace has been divided in to three different parts According to the three parts of parliament; the House of Lords, the Royal Apartments and the House of commons.The oldest part of palace Westminster is Westminster Hall. Work on the Hall was started by William Rufus, the son of William the Conqueror, in1097.Mps hold most of the debates in the House of Commons Chamber.Elections.

The UK is divided up into 646 geographical areas known as constituencies, each of which sends one MP to the House of Commons. At general elections there are elections in each 646 constituencies.Most candidates in the election will represent a political party but they can also be independent.
